Basic Death Benefit

Available during accumulation phase. Upon death of annuitant, benefit will be greater of - 1) contract value; or 2) total purchase payments adjusted for withdrawals and subsequent payments. A Spousal Protection Annuity Option is available under the contract at the time of application, which allows a surviving spouse to continue the contract while receiving the economic benefit of the death benefit upon the death of the other spouse. Once elected, the Spousal Protection Annuity Option is irrevocable. If an applicant elects the Spousal Protection Annuity Option, Nationwide will deduct an additional charge at an annualized rate of 0.10% of the Daily Net Assets.
