The Protective Series Balance Annuity is a single premium deferred annuity. The minimum single premium is $10,000 for qualified and nonqualified money. 10% of the account value may be withdrawn after the first contract year without a withdrawal charge and may be deferred up to one year so owner may take up to 20% of account value without charges if he/she did not take a 10% charge-free withdrawal in the prior year. Systematic Withdrawal is an option. Surrender charges may vary by rate term and are waived in the event of death, entrance into a nursing home, unemployment or diagnosis of a terminal illness. There is an optional return of premium guarantee which, if not selected on the application, may include a higher applicable bonus rate.  Withdrawals and taxable distributions may be subject to ordinary income tax and if made prior to age 59 1/2, may also be subject to a 10% federal income tax penalty. Early surrender charges may also apply. Products / features may not be available in all states.
