The Athene Ascent 5 is a single premium deferred annuity with a market value adjustment. The minimum single premium is $5,000 for qualified and non-qualified money. 5% of the accumulated value is available in the first contract year without a withdrawal charge or market value adjustment. After the first contract year, the free withdrawal amount is equal to 10% of the accumulated value. Surrender charges are five years in duration and are waived in the event of death, confinement, or diagnosis of a terminal illness. Withdrawals and taxable distributions may be subject to ordinary income tax and if made prior to age 59 1/2, may also be subject to a 10% federal income tax penalty.
