The Brighthouse SecureKey 5-Year is a single premium deferred index annuity with market value adjustment. The contract offers interest equal to the percentage returns of certain securities indices with certain guarantees against negative returns. The cap rate and step rate are the two ways, by which owner can receive interest based on the upside performance of an index. The minimum purchase payment is $25,000 for qualified and non-qualified plans. Surrender charges are 5 years in duration, and are waived after the first policy year, in the event of annuitization, death or entrance into a nursing home or terminal illness. Contract also provides transfers between shield options and fixed account within 5 calendar days at the end of each term. Withdrawals and taxable distributions may be subject to ordinary income tax and if made prior to age 59 1/2, may also be subject to a 10% federal income tax penalty. Early surrender charges may also apply. Guarantees based on claims paying ability of insurer. Products/features may not be available in all states. This is an annuity contract issued by an insurance company and not a bank product protected by the FDIC.
